1 Spanish Braid
A heavy cotton braid, plain weave, made in several widths and used for Sicilian embroidery work as well as binding. -
2 Sicilian Embroidery
Work intended to imitate embroidery upon muslin. It consists in tracing a point lace design and tacking muslin and then fine cambric over the design, the outlines of which are marked out with a thick braid known as Spanish braid. Both the materials are retained at the patterned parts, but the cambric is cut away beyond the braid and the raw edges are concealed by the braid being sewn down to the muslin. The work is also called Spanish embroidery.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Sicilian Embroidery
